American Gods (2017 – present)
American Gods is an American fantasy drama television series based on Neil Gaiman’s 2001 novel of the same name.
Only days before his scheduled release from prison, Shadow Moon is told his wife has been killed in a car accident, and he is released early to attend the funeral. A series of events delay his trip home, during which time he meets the mysterious Mr Wednesday. Wednesday repeatedly offers Shadow a job, which he refuses until Wednesday reveals that the job waiting for him at home no longer exists. Shadow accepts the offer to become Wednesday’s driver/assistant/bodyguard.
Shadow finds himself in a hidden world where magic is real and the Old Gods fear irrelevance in the face of the growing power of the New Gods, which include Technology and Media. In a grand plan to combat this deadly threat, Mr Wednesday attempts to unite the Old Gods to defend their existence and rebuild the influence they have lost, leaving Shadow struggling to accept this new world and his place in it. Buffy the Vampire Slayer (1996 – 2003)
Buffy Summers (played by Sarah Michelle Gellar) is the “Slayer”, one in a long line of young women chosen by fate to battle evil forces. This mystical calling grants her powers that dramatically increase physical strength, endurance, agility, accelerated healing, intuition, and a limited degree of precognition, usually in the form of prophetic dreams. She has returned from death twice and is known as a reluctant hero who wants to live a normal life. However, she learns to embrace her destiny as the vampire slayer.
Buffy receives guidance from her Watcher, Rupert Giles (Anthony Stewart Head). Giles, rarely referred to by his first name and is a member of the Watchers’ Council, whose job is to train and guide the Slayers. Giles researches the supernatural creatures that Buffy must face, offers insights into their origins and advice on how to defeat them, and helps her train to stay in fighting form. Pride (2014)
Pride is a 2014 British historical comedy-drama film written by Stephen Beresford and directed by Matthew Warchus. Based on a true story, the film depicts a group of lesbian and gay activists who raised money to help families affected by the British miners’ strike in 1984, at the outset of what would become the Lesbians and Gays Support the Miners campaign. Empire (2015 – 2019)
Empire is an American musical drama television series created by Lee Daniels and Danny Strong for Fox. Lucious Lyon (Terrence Howard) is a hip hop mogul, former drug dealer, and CEO of Empire Entertainment. Informed of his own imminent early death from a certain medical condition, Lucious is forced to choose, from amongst his progeny, a successor who will control his dynasty after his demise.
He begins working to groom one of his three sons to take over the family business – Empire CFO Andre (Trai Byers), R&B singer-songwriter Jamal (Jussie Smollett), and rapper Hakeem (Bryshere Y. Gray). In the process, Lucious pits them against each other. Lucious’ ex-wife Cookie Lyon (Taraji P. Fleabag (2016 – 2019)
Fleabag is a British black comedy television series created and written by Phoebe Waller-Bridge, based on her one-woman show first performed in 2013. It was originally produced by Two Brothers Pictures for the digital channel BBC Three in a co-production agreement with Amazon Studios. Waller-Bridge stars as the title character, a free-spirited and sexually active but angry and confused young woman in London. Sian Clifford and Olivia Colman also star, while Andrew Scott joined the cast in the second series. The protagonist frequently breaks the fourth wall to provide exposition, internal monologues, and a running commentary to the audience. Watch it now on Prime Video

Modern Family revolves around three different types of families (nuclear, blended and same-sex) living in the Los Angeles area. Who are interrelated through Jay Pritchett and his children, daughter Claire and son Mitchell. Patriarch Jay remarried a much younger woman, Gloria Delgado Pritchett (née Ramirez), a passionate Colombian immigrant. Rocketman (2019)
Rocketman is a 2019 biographical musical film based on the life of British musician Elton John. Directed by Dexter Fletcher and written by Lee Hall, it stars Taron Egerton as Elton John, with Jamie Bell as Bernie Taupin, Richard Madden as John Reid, and Bryce Dallas Howard as Sheila Eileen, John’s mother. The film follows John in his early days in England as a prodigy at the Royal Academy of Music through his musical partnership with Taupin, and is titled after John’s 1972 song “Rocket Man”. Modern Love explores “love in its multitude of forms – including sexual, romantic, familial, platonic, and self-love,” which are presented in eight half-hour episodes. Ugly Betty (2006 – 2010)
Betty Suarez is a quirky, 22-year-old Mexican American woman from Queens, New York, who is sorely lacking in fashion sense. She is known for her adult braces, rather unusual wardrobe choices, sweet nature, and slight naïveté. She is abruptly thrust into a different world when she lands a job at Mode. A trendy, high-fashion magazine based in Manhattan that is part of the publishing empire Meade Publications owned by the wealthy Bradford Meade. Bradford’s son, Daniel, has been installed as editor-in-chief of Mode following the death of Fey Sommers (Bradford’s longtime mistress). Bradford hires the inexperienced Betty as his womanizing son’s newest personal assistant to curb his habit of sleeping with his assistants. Will & Grace (1998 – present)
Will & Grace is set in New York City. It focuses on the relationship between Will Truman, a gay lawyer, and his best friend Grace Adler, a Jewish woman who owns an interior design firm. Also featured are their friends Karen Walker, a demonically alcoholic socialite, and Jack McFarland, a flamboyantly gay actor. The interplay of relationships features the trials and tribulations of dating, marriage, divorce, and casual sex; as well as comical key stereotypes of gay and Jewish culture.
